Say goodbye to boring profiles! 🙅♂️ WhatsApp might soon let you add a cover photo on iOS. Here’s what we know 👇
WhatsApp is steadily blurring the lines between a simple
messaging app and a full-fledged social network. The Meta-owned platform is
reportedly developing a feature that would allow iOS users to set a "cover
photo" on their personal profiles, a visual customization we’ve typically
associated with platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn.
While this functionality has long been a staple for WhatsApp
Business accounts, it looks like regular users might soon get the chance to
jazz up their profile pages as well.
A New Look for Your Profile
According to the latest report from the feature tracking
experts at WABetaInfo, this new cover photo option was spotted in the recent
WhatsApp beta for iOS, specifically update version 26.1.10.10.71, which
is available via TestFlight.
The discovery suggests that WhatsApp is building a dedicated
section within the profile interface to house this new banner. Based on the
layout described in the report, the cover image will sit horizontally right
above your existing circular profile picture. It’s a familiar design
language—essentially giving your WhatsApp contact card a header image.
How Will It Work?
If you’ve ever used a WhatsApp Business account, the process
for personal profiles will likely feel very similar. The report indicates that
users will be able to tap on the cover photo area to either snap a fresh photo
using their camera or select an existing image from their gallery.
Customization seems to be a priority here. Users will
reportedly have the freedom to reposition the image to get the perfect framing
or replace it entirely whenever the mood strikes. Once enabled, this banner
isn't just for you; it will be visible to anyone who views your contact
profile, as well as when you are checking your own profile settings.
Part of a Bigger Update
This cover photo test is just one piece of a larger puzzle
for WhatsApp. The app has been rolling out a slew of features recently aimed at
improving user interaction. Just in the past few weeks, we've seen the
introduction of member tags to give context to group members, text
stickers that let you turn words into graphics, and a new event reminder
feature for group chats.
While the cover photo feature is still in the beta testing phase—and therefore subject to change or delay—its presence in the iOS build suggests an official rollout could be on the horizon. It’s a small change, but one that goes a long way in letting users express a bit more personality within the app.
