Garmin Quatix 8 Pro is here! 🚤🛰️ LTE + Satellite connectivity for deep-sea safety. Control your boat from your wrist for $1,299. 🌊 Details 👇
Garmin has just dropped what is arguably the most rugged
smartwatch for life on the water. The new Garmin Quatix 8 Pro isn't just
a fitness tracker; it's a fully-fledged maritime command center with a lifeline
to the outside world.
Designed for those who spend long stretches offshore where
cell service is a myth, the Quatix 8 Pro combines satellite communication,
LTE connectivity, and direct vessel control into one indestructible
package.
Always Connected: LTE and Satellite in One
The biggest hurdle for marine tech is connectivity. Most
smartwatches die as soon as you leave the harbor. The Quatix 8 Pro solves this
by packing two powerful communication layers.
- LTE:
When you are closer to shore, you can make voice calls and send texts
directly from your wrist without a phone.
- Satellite
(inReach): When you are miles out in the middle of the ocean, the
built-in inReach tech takes over. It supports two-way text messaging,
location check-ins, and SOS alerts that connect to a 24/7 emergency
response team.
Garmin says this satellite capability works effectively up
to 50 miles offshore (depending on regional regulations). It brings a
massive sense of safety to deep-sea fishing or solo sailing trips.
Boat Mode: Your Wrist is the Remote
The Quatix 8 Pro is designed to talk to your boat. When you
activate "Boat Mode," the smartwatch prioritizes marine apps and
turns into a control center.
- Autopilot
Control: Adjust your course directly from your wrist.
- Trolling
Motor Data: Keep an eye on your motors without leaving the helm.
- Chartplotter
Voice Commands: Navigate without touching the screen.
- Vessel
Controls: Manage compatible entertainment and lighting systems on the
boat remotely.
It’s a seamless way to keep your hands free while managing
the vessel, which is a huge safety and convenience advantage for captains.
Rugged Specs and Price
Of course, this is a Garmin, so the build quality is
tank-like.
- Display:
1.4-inch AMOLED (454 x 454 pixels) protected by sapphire crystal.
- Body:
Fiber-reinforced polymer with a titanium bezel.
- Water
Resistance: Rated to 10 ATM, and it even includes a depth
sensor that works down to 40 meters.
The Garmin Quatix 8 Pro is available in 47mm and 51mm
case sizes. You can snag one starting January 16 via Garmin’s official
website.
The Catch? The Price Tag
All this tech doesn't come cheap. The Quatix 8 Pro is priced
at $1,299.99 (roughly Rs. 1,17,200).
That is a steep investment, but keep in mind that this
replaces multiple devices—a satellite communicator, a boat remote, a fitness
tracker, and a smartwatch. Plus, to use the satellite and LTE features, you
will need an active inReach subscription.
Battery Life
Despite all the power, Garmin promises solid endurance:
- Smartwatch
Mode: Up to 15 days.
- Always-On
Display: Up to 8 days.
- GPS
Mode: Up to 44 hours.
