Google Preps Big Gemini Makeover & macOS App: “UX 2.0” Confirmed
Google is gearing up to deliver a major refresh to its
Gemini app experience. The update—internally referred to as “UX 2.0”—has
been confirmed by a company executive, who stated that the overhaul aims to
address long-standing usability issues reported by users.
Alongside this, Google is also said to be building a dedicated macOS version
of the Gemini app, marking its first step toward bringing an AI-powered
standalone application to desktop computers.
No release window has been shared yet, but work on both
projects appears to be well underway.
Gemini App to Receive a Full Experience Overhaul
Users across social platforms have frequently pointed out
that Gemini’s interface feels less refined compared to competitors like
ChatGPT. Complaints typically include a cluttered layout, scattered menus, and
unintuitive navigation paths.
Google, however, has acknowledged these issues.
In a recent conversation on X (formerly Twitter), Logan Kilpatrick,
Group Product Manager at Google DeepMind, confirmed that the company is making
significant improvements. He described the effort as a full user-experience
redesign, not just a cosmetic interface tweak.
This distinction is important:
- UI
(User Interface) deals with visuals and interactive elements,
- UX
(User Experience) shapes the entire interaction journey.
Kilpatrick’s comments suggest that Google’s changes will go
far beyond repositioning icons—they may shift how users move through the app
and interact with Gemini as a whole.
Google Working on a macOS Gemini App
In another exchange on X, Kilpatrick revealed that Josh
Woodward, Google’s VP, and his team are actively developing a Gemini app
for macOS.
This would allow Mac users to run Gemini directly from their system—without
opening a browser—and could potentially introduce features tailored to desktop
workflows.
If launched, this would be Google’s first full-fledged AI
desktop application, hinting at a broader vision for integrating Gemini
into everyday computing environments.
