Google Maps Adds New Power Saving Mode for Pixel 10 Phones — Here’s How It Works
Google Maps has introduced a fresh Power Saving Mode aimed
at stretching battery life during navigation sessions. Initially announced as
part of the November Pixel Feature Drop, this mode is now reaching more owners
of the Pixel 10 lineup. Its goal is simple: reduce battery drain while still
providing essential navigation support.
A Simplified Look to Save Power
When activated, Google Maps switches to a minimal
black-and-white layout, trims unnecessary animations, and limits visual
updates. Instead of the full interface, drivers see only the key details—like
upcoming turns and route alerts—helping the phone last longer on the road.
Multiple users have shared screenshots confirming that the
feature is now appearing on Pixel 10 devices, including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10
Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Key Features of the New Mode
- Monochrome
interface for lower battery consumption
- Reduced
screen brightness and refresh rate
- Only
essential navigation prompts are shown
- Designed
exclusively for driving mode (walking and cycling not supported)
How to Enable Power Saving Mode on Pixel 10 Series
- Open Google
Maps
- Go to Settings
- Select
Navigation
- Under Driving
Options, toggle Power Saving Mode on
Once navigation starts, pressing the Power button
activates the low-power map display on the lock screen. Press the Power button
or tap the display to exit. Press again to return to the simplified mode.
The feature only works when the phone is held vertically,
and Google Maps automatically reverts to the full-color interface after
reaching your destination.
