Apple’s New HomePod Mini Upgrade: Faster Chip, Smarter Audio, Stronger Connectivity

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a refreshed version of the HomePod Mini, bringing notable performance upgrades and improved wireless capabilities to its compact smart speaker. While the overall design may remain familiar, the internal improvements are expected to make everyday interactions faster, smoother, and more efficient.

A More Powerful Brain for Apple’s Smallest Smart Speaker

According to early reports, the next-generation HomePod Mini will receive a substantial processor upgrade. The current model, introduced in 2020, uses Apple’s S5 chip—designed originally for the Apple Watch Series 5 and optimized for lightweight, always-on tasks like Siri processing and audio tuning.

The upcoming version, however, is expected to jump to Apple’s newer S9 chip—or potentially the unreleased S10. Both are based on the A13 Bionic architecture, bringing:

  • Faster CPU and GPU performance
  • A more advanced Neural Engine
  • Lower power consumption
  • Sharper, more adaptive computational audio

This upgrade would mark the largest performance leap the Mini has ever seen, enabling quicker Siri responses, more precise sound adjustments, and better smart home coordination.

Better Wireless Power and Future-Ready Connectivity

The refreshed HomePod Mini is also rumored to include Apple’s new N1 wireless chip. This component is designed to unify Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions while supporting Wi-Fi 6E, unlocking:

  • Faster and more stable wireless performance
  • Access to the 6GHz band for reduced congestion
  • Lower latency during device communication

For homes with multiple smart devices—or those relying heavily on HomeKit—the improvement could significantly reduce network interference and enhance real-time responses.

Updated Colors and Ecosystem Integration

Apple is reportedly testing new color options, including a shade of red, to complement the existing lineup of Blue, Yellow, Orange, Midnight, and White. The next-gen Mini is expected to integrate seamlessly with Apple’s latest smart home features, though it’s not anticipated to introduce major new Siri functions or Apple Intelligence support.

With retailers such as B&H Photo marking the current model as discontinued, industry watchers believe Apple is close to unveiling the upgraded speaker.
