“Motorola Phones in India Now Ship With PhonePe’s Indus Appstore — A Bigger Push for India’s Homegrown App Marketplace”

Indus Appstore Expands Its Reach Through New Motorola Partnership

PhonePe has announced a new partnership with Motorola India, bringing its Indus Appstore to all Motorola smartphones and tablets sold in the country. With this move, the Indian-made Android app marketplace widens its presence, giving users more choice in where they download and update their apps.
Neither company shared financial details of the agreement, but the rollout marks another step in Indus Appstore’s strategy to compete with global app distribution platforms.

Indus Appstore Will Come Preloaded on Motorola Devices

In its press note, PhonePe confirmed that Indus Appstore will be available out-of-the-box on Motorola’s Indian lineup. The company says the collaboration enhances the store’s distribution footprint while also giving Motorola users access to a more localised, personalised app discovery experience.

Priya M Narasimhan, Chief Business Officer at Indus Appstore, stated:
“We are excited to join hands with Motorola to make the Indus Appstore accessible to a wider audience. As a platform built with a Made-for-India vision, we are now at a turning point in transforming the Indian app ecosystem.”

Not the First OEM Collaboration for Indus Appstore

This isn’t Indus Appstore’s first partnership with a smartphone manufacturer. It previously secured deals with Xiaomi India and Lava, with the app marketplace shipping pre-installed on many of their models.
While Indus Appstore positions itself as the default marketplace on partner devices, some Gadget360 tests did not observe this behavior on certain Xiaomi models.

Features of the Indus Appstore

Launched on February 21, 2024, the store includes:

  • A personalised in-app browsing experience
  • AI-powered voice search
  • Support for English and 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Marathi
  • A library of over 5 lakh apps, with brands such as Flipkart, Ixigo, Domino’s, Snapdeal, JioMart, and Bajaj Finserv
  • Mandatory malware and security checks for every listed app

TM Narasimhan, Managing Director at Motorola Mobility India, said the integration brings a culturally rooted discovery platform to Motorola users, enhancing the overall experience.
