Instagram Expands Meta AI Translations to Indian Languages + New Regional Fonts in Edits App

Meta has announced a fresh wave of India-focused updates for Instagram, Facebook, and its standalone Edits app. The new additions, revealed during the House of Instagram event in Mumbai, are geared toward boosting creator reach and enhancing multilingual content creation. One of the biggest highlights is the expansion of Meta AI-powered translations to several widely spoken Indian languages.

Meta AI Translations Now Support More Indian Languages

Meta confirmed that creators will soon be able to translate their Reels into Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu using Instagram’s AI-driven dubbing and lip-sync tools. The update will also be available on Facebook.

The dubbing feature, powered by Meta AI, is designed to:

  • Maintain the creator’s original voice tone,
  • Deliver fluency in translated languages,
  • Ensure the content feels natural and authentic.

Meanwhile, the lip-sync feature adjusts the translated audio to match the speaker’s mouth movements, giving the impression that the creator is speaking the translated language themselves.

These languages join Meta’s earlier rollout that supported English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Edits App Gets New Indian Fonts

Meta is also introducing regional Indian fonts inside its Edits app — the video-editing tool built for fast, high-quality mobile content creation. The app already includes features such as high-resolution video capture, keyframing, auto captions, and manual camera controls.

With the new update, creators can now style text using Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts, supporting Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, and Marathi languages. The feature will arrive on Android devices first.

How to Use the New Regional Fonts in Edits

  1. Open the Edits app and select the project you want to modify.
  2. Tap on Text at the bottom of the timeline.
  3. Tap the Aa icon to browse through the available fonts.

If your device language is already set to a script like Devanagari or Bengali-Assamese, the new fonts will appear by default. Otherwise, you can swipe through the All Fonts list and filter by language.
