Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Nears Launch — Crease-Free Display & Vapour Chamber Cooling Reported
Apple’s long-discussed foldable iPhone appears to be edging
much closer to becoming an actual product. A new report indicates that the
company has completed another major checkpoint in its development cycle, moving
the device into the engineering verification and early pre-mass-production
phase. Key suppliers have reportedly begun stocking essential components and
are ready to scale up once Apple gives the official green light.
According to industry insiders, the years Apple spent
prototyping different hinge mechanisms, display structures, and durability
solutions are finally paying off. The project has now shifted from experimental
design to fine-tuning and final optimisation—typically the last step before
mass manufacturing.
Crease-Free Display Reportedly Finalised
A report from United Daily News claims Apple has
successfully completed the design for a crease-less inner display—one of the
biggest engineering hurdles for any foldable device. Only small adjustments are
said to remain before the hardware is ready for large-scale production.
Another interesting detail is the expected inclusion of a vapour
chamber cooling system. Apple previously introduced this cooling method
with the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, and it now appears to be expanding the
technology across future flagship devices, including the foldable model.
Key partners such as Samsung, TSMC, Foxconn, Shin Zu Shing,
and Largan Precision are all expected to benefit from the project’s
progression. The vapour chamber system will reportedly be supplied by Chi Hong.
Apple’s custom hinge design, which has taken nearly five years to engineer, is
also said to be a major highlight of the device.
Apple Expected to Ship Millions in First Year
Early estimates suggest Apple could ship 7–9 million
foldable units in the first year—a launch target significantly higher than
most Android foldables. Industry analysts believe Apple’s approach, backed by
its software ecosystem and brand influence, could reshape the global foldable
smartphone market.
Expected Features and Specs
Next-Gen A20 Pro Chipset
The foldable iPhone is rumoured to debut with the A20 Pro,
Apple’s next major chipset built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. The
same chip family is expected to power the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
Display Sizes
Leaked details suggest a 5.5-inch cover display
paired with a 7.8-inch inner display, giving users a compact form factor
when closed and an almost tablet-like experience when opened.
Battery Innovations
Apple is reportedly exploring silicon-carbon battery
technology, which could offer improved efficiency and longevity, though
final decisions are still under evaluation.
Price Expectations and Market Positioning
The foldable iPhone is shaping up to be one of Apple’s most
ambitious devices since the Vision Pro. But its impact will depend heavily on
durability, long-term value, and how Apple positions it alongside the standard
iPhone 18 models.
Current reports point to a possible starting price around $2,399
(approximately ₹2,14,000), though some analysts believe Apple may aim for a
slightly lower entry point to compete more aggressively in the foldable market.
