“Google Photos 2025 Recap Goes Live — Cinematic Memories, Personal Highlights, and New Customization Features!”
A Fresh Year-End Experience Arrives
As 2025 draws to a close, Google Photos has begun releasing
its new “2025 Recap”, offering users a curated look at their standout
photos, videos, and memories from the past year. The update blends personal
moments with cinematic visuals and animated graphics, creating a polished
highlight reel that captures the essence of the last twelve months.
This year, Google has also added more control—letting users
hide specific faces or photos before regenerating a fresh recap, making the
experience even more personal and customizable.
Where to Find the 2025 Recap
Appears in Memories and Collections Tabs
Early users on X have reported seeing the new recap feature
pop up in the Memories carousel and inside the Collections tab.
The presentation features dramatic transitions, stylized animations, and a
storyline-like flow, similar to the more polished YouTube Recap and YouTube
Music Recap experiences.
Google also allows easy sharing of the recap across social
media platforms and messaging apps. If you choose to hide someone or remove
specific moments, Google Photos will produce a revised version—usually within
half an hour.
Rollout Timeline and Requirements
The 2025 Recap is rolling out in stages, so not everyone
will see it immediately. To qualify for the feature, users need to:
- Use
the most recent version of Google Photos
- Have
Face Groups turned on
- Have
enough photos or videos uploaded throughout 2025
- Enable
backup for photos and videos, if prompted
Once your recap is ready, Google Photos will send a
notification. Throughout December, the recap will remain pinned in the
Collections tab before being moved to your main photo grid under the December
section.
Google Photos Recap Takes Cues From YouTube
This year's experience leans even closer to the look and
style of YouTube Recap 2025 and YouTube Music Recap 2025,
offering a more unified and recognizable end-of-year storytelling format across
Google’s platforms.
