Google Quietly Rolls Out Gemini AI in Android Auto — Here’s What’s New

Google appears to have taken the first real step toward bringing its Gemini AI assistant directly into Android Auto, with multiple users reporting that the new tool has quietly begun showing up in recent updates. Although Google hasn’t made a formal announcement yet, sightings over the last few days suggest the rollout may already be underway — at least for some devices.

Early Signs of Gemini Arriving in Cars

According to reports highlighted by 9to5Google, Gemini is beginning to appear in certain beta builds of Android Auto. Testers spotted the AI assistant running on:

  • Android Auto 15.6 when linked to a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL
  • Android Auto 15.7 when paired with a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Both versions are still in beta, which raises questions about whether the release is limited to testers or if Google is pushing out the first wave of a broader rollout. At the moment, there’s no official communication from Google clarifying whether this is a controlled test or the beginning of a global release.

A Feature Previewed Months Ago

Google originally showcased Gemini inside Android Auto during Google I/O in May, confirming that it would eventually replace the long-running Google Assistant. Once Gemini completes its rollout across mobile and in-car systems, the classic Assistant is expected to be phased out entirely.

What the Gemini Assistant Can Do in the Car

With Gemini integrated into Android Auto, drivers can expect a far more conversational, hands-free experience. According to Google’s preview:

  • You can speak naturally without relying on exact voice commands.
  • Gemini can translate text messages in real time.
  • It can offer route-based suggestions, such as places to stop or dine, even with complex instructions.
  • Users can launch the Gemini Live conversational mode without touching the screen.
  • It integrates with apps like YouTube Music, Spotify, and others for seamless media control.
  • It can create Google Calendar events, scan Gmail for relevant information, and answer questions instantly.

If these features roll out broadly, Gemini could become one of the most advanced in-car AI assistants available — and a major upgrade for Android Auto users worldwide.
