Frank West Returns? New Dead Rising Game Reportedly in the Works!
Fresh reports suggest that Capcom is quietly building the
next chapter in the Dead Rising franchise — and fan-favourite
photojournalist Frank West is reportedly stepping back into the
spotlight. Unlike remasters or reimagined editions, this project is said to be
a full-fledged mainline sequel, continuing the series’ chaotic,
zombie-packed legacy.
Frank West Takes the Lead Again
According to a new report from MP1st, the upcoming game —
internally tagged with the codename “Rec” — has been in development
since 2023. Insiders claim that Frank West, best known for his role in the
original Dead Rising and Off the Record, will take centre stage
once again.
Frank has made multiple appearances across the series and
its DLCs, but this would mark his return to a major narrative role after years
of fan demand.
Story Setting and Plot Hints
While Capcom has yet to confirm anything officially, early
details outline a dramatic new setting:
- The
sequel will reportedly unfold in Hollywood, Los Angeles
- A
massive enclosed movie studio lot will function as the main sandbox
environment
- The
primary antagonist is described as a wildly eccentric film director,
determined to force Frank and surviving civilians through deadly “scenes”
to create his ultimate masterpiece
This creative but twisted filmmaker will control a network
of minions, including a camera operator strapped with explosives — all
contributing to a darker, more cinematic tone for the franchise.
Psychopaths & Returning Mechanics
The notorious Psychopaths, a core element of the
series, will reportedly return in this new entry. Some of them are said to
serve directly under the film director, while others will challenge Frank
throughout the studio backlot.
Key mechanics expected to return include:
- Frank’s
signature camera and photography-based gameplay
- The
classic time-limit system, adding urgency and replay value
- A
group of survivors assisting Frank, including actors and familiar faces
from earlier games
No Release Window Confirmed Yet
VGC has also supported parts of MP1st’s report, suggesting
there’s substance behind the rumours. Still, Capcom has not publicly
acknowledged development of a new Dead Rising title.
The studio recently released Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster,
refreshing the 2006 classic with modern enhancements. Capcom has previously
stated it aims to revive dormant IPs — and Dead Rising, along with Onimusha
and Okami, appears to be part of that plan.
