Alexa+ Scene Search Arrives on Fire TV—Jump to Any Prime Video Moment With Your Voice
Amazon has begun rolling out a new Alexa+ powered Scene
Search feature for Fire TV users, giving viewers a faster way to reach
specific moments in Prime Video movies. The tool, which Amazon teased during
its hardware showcase earlier this year, is now becoming widely available. With
this update, users can simply describe a moment they want to watch,
rather than dragging through the timeline or searching manually.
The feature is designed to streamline navigation across
Prime Video’s massive library, making it easier to return to memorable scenes
with just a voice command.
Describe the Moment — Alexa+ Will Find It
According to Amazon, Scene Search can interpret natural
descriptions of scenes, whether it’s a famous quote, a character interaction,
or a well-known action sequence.
Viewers can ask for moments like:
- “Show
me the card scene in Love Actually”
- “Play
the moment where Joshua says ‘Shall we play a game?’”
- “Take
me to the boulder chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark”
Alexa+ can even identify a movie without the user mentioning
its title, relying on context and what’s being described.
How Alexa+ Scene Search Works Behind the Scenes
The new capability relies on a blend of metadata and
AI-driven interpretation. Fire TV taps into Prime Video’s X-Ray database,
which contains scene-by-scene information including cast, music, and detailed
breakdowns. Alexa+ then uses advanced generative AI—including Amazon Nova
and models from Anthropic Claude—to turn voice descriptions into exact
timestamps.
This layered system helps Alexa+ interpret a spoken request,
match it to a specific moment, and jump directly to it with minimal delay.
Supported Movies and Availability
At launch, Alexa+ Scene Search covers thousands of movies
on Prime Video, with tens of thousands of scenes indexed. Support
applies to:
- Prime
Video titles included with a subscription
- Purchased
movies
- Rented
movies
Amazon says more movies—and eventually TV shows—will be
added over time. Currently, there’s no visual indicator showing which titles
support scene jumping, but users can simply ask Alexa+ to check.
Extra Alexa+ Tools for Viewers
Beyond scene searching, Alexa+ offers additional viewing
enhancements:
- Ask
about actors on screen
- Get
soundtrack details
- Access
behind-the-scenes trivia
- During
live sports: see scores, player info, and quick highlight rundowns
These features share the same AI foundation that drives
Scene Search, giving users deeper interaction with the content they’re
watching.
